Chandigarh 20 February 2026 (Desk) —The Old Pension Restoration Struggle Committee Punjab and CPF Employees Union Punjab held a protest outside the DC office on Chandigarh Road, Nawanshahr. Hundreds of teachers and employees burned effigies of the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Education Minister, demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).Leaders Gurdial Mann, Jujhar Sahnugra and Maninderjit Singh said the Punjab government has failed to implement its election promise even four years after issuing a notification on 18 November 2022. They accused the government of maintaining deliberate silence on pension restoration, forcing employees to intensify agitation.They announced that all NPS employees will march towards the Punjab Assembly during the budget session, and block-level preparations have already begun. According to the unions, workers are now ready for a decisive struggle after repeated assurances yielded no results.The leaders also alleged the government imposed the TET condition to divert attention from the pension issue. They demanded its immediate withdrawal through an ordinance, otherwise they will support the mega rally at Sri Anandpur Sahib on 22 February and raise both demands during the Assembly march.Several union representatives and employees also addressed the gathering and expressed solidarity with the movement.
